Yeah, so back in August I sent out the call for an official utopYA Blogger. A couple of us on the team keep up the utopYA blog, but I wanted some of the bloggers out there who have been supportive, to get a chance to not only be official bloggers for utopYA, but reap some pretty cool rewards for doing so. As the demands on my time and the team’s time increase with the magnitude of this year’s conference, we wanted to make sure the buzz was still building while we were building the sets behind the scenes, so to speak.
That being said, we are floored and grateful to everyone out there who tweets, blogs posts and supports utopYA. Don’t stop doing that. Never stop doing that. Did I mention we LOVE when you do that? This experiment has several purposes, but we don’t want to stifle or silence any of you immensely creative bloggers out there. We hope you’ll continue to keep on showing the love. However, we are eager to see if this experiment works this year.
1. INFORM people of all utopYA news and updates.
2. Stay true to the three-fold utopYA mission to educate, collaborate and inspire.
3. Have fun.
We’re looking for innovative ways to promote and discuss #utopYA2014, the invited panelists, the panels, the special events within the conference, and, of course, the books that are bringing us all together.
We do NOT participate in book blog tours, as it is a conflict of interest for us, and we don’t want to show partiality over any authors. We also do NOT want any reviews done under our name. Bloggers of course can review all they want, but we don’t want reviews. If we invited them, you can assume we love their books. 😉
The chosen blogger will work closely with utopYA founder, Janet Wallace (that’s me), to create content and schedule. I have a hard time not micro-managing blog posts, so good luck with that.
In exchange for the blogger’s time and talent, we offer:
1. VIP admission to utopYA 2014, which includes:
–> one admission to 3-day utopYA conference
–> fan admission to Friday night PUblic signing event (and the special thing I haven’t announced yet)
–> one admission ticket to utopYA Awards on Saturday night
–> admission to Sunday Write-in
–> a free official 2014 T-shirt
–> lunch provided both Friday and Saturday
–> Welcome Bag full o’ swag
2. Front of line to the Friday Public signing.
3. Preferred seating at utopYA Awards (first two rows), unless you decide to sit at a special blogger’s table.
4. Special blogger seating in all panels.
5. An invitation to a special VIP dinner on Thursday night before the conference begins.
6. Promotion via our blog, social media and other means at the conference.
7. Official utopYA Giveaway Partner, as well — ticket packages to giveaway on blog site.
8. Tackle hugs, bragging rights and our undying thanks.
All I had to do was pick a blogger. Easier said than done. I was inundated with kick booty bloggers wanting to do this with us. I seriously could not make up my mind (clearly, considering I’m only now making this announcement three months later). So, I finally came to an executive decision…
I picked FIVE. Cinco. Cinq. 5. Believe me when I tell you I wanted to pick way more. These five blew me away with their blogs, their support of the writing community, their passion for books, their love of utopYA, and their downright creativity in wanting to do some pretty spectacular things.
I could go on and on, but let’s just announce them already…[drum roll]…and the Official Bloggers of utopYA 2014 are:
Delphina Miyares of Delphina Reads Too Much — and thank goodness she does because she was named Blogger of the Year at the utopYA Awards 2013. Delphina is the official NEW ADULT blogger for utopYA 2014.
Heather Smiddie of SupaGurl Books — Heather will be moderating the Blog Your Face Off panel this year — consider it a warning or an invitation. You decide. 😉
All five will get everything I mentioned above, and will be the Official Bloggers of utopYA 2014. None of them have been informed of their being chosen yet. So, feel free to let them know if you see this post first. We will be reaching out to each of them personally to start creating the awesome for all of you leading up to utopYA 2014.
Congrats to all of them. And thank you to everyone who emailed with interest. You inspire me daily.
