Okay, everyone, here is the BIG announcement I’ve been sitting on for awhile. There are so many balls in the air for this one, that I may have to just roll out the addendums as they happen, but they are just as cool as this biggie here…I promise.
So, yes, you read that right — we are going to attempt to set the record for the “Cup Song” routine made famous in utopYA fan favorite movie “Pitch Perfect” on Sunday, June 22, 2014. If you scheduled yourself to leave early on Sunday, you might want to rethink that.
A little backstory: On the last day of utopYA 2013, we had a little impromptu “Cup Song” magic happen at the Open Floor Keynote event. Since then, utopYAns have posted in groups, on the FB page, and elsewhere, different versions of the song and routine that they love. A handful of the attendees from last year even sent me their own version of the song for my birthday — I still get misty-eyed when I watch it. Thank you all!
Because of all this, and as I’m apt to do, I got another hair-brained idea in my noggin that wouldn’t get out. I thought — this is our thing. This is another way for us to tighten our bond as we grow bigger. I submitted the application to the GBWR folks, and after a little nail-biting, I’m thrilled to announce that they have approved our attempt. We have a mountain of paperwork and evidence we have to collect to get certified, but I’m up to the challenge if all of you are up for being in the Guinness Book of World Records!
You can add that to your 2014 bucket list — write a book, attend a conference, set a world record. You know, it’s the little things that make all the difference 😉
We have ONE rehearsal planned into the schedule, but please practice the routine from now until you get to utopYA if you want to be included in the attempt. Special thank you to author Sarah Ashley Jones for stepping up to be the squad leader who will help us all learn the ‘Cup Song’ moves before June.
Get your ticket to utopYA 2014 NOW, and be a part of herstory.
And for crying out loud, if you haven’t seen the movie “Pitch Perfect” yet, get on it. It’s aca-awesome!
